September 7-11, 2026
Happy Labor Day to all the traders and investors out there.
Markets return Tuesday to an important week, with the inflation picture taking over after Friday’s much stronger-than-expected jobs report. The U.S. added 162,000 jobs in August against expectations for roughly 55,000, pushing rate-hike expectations higher ahead of the Fed’s Sept. 15-16 meeting. Now comes August PPI on Thursday and CPI on Friday, the final inflation readings before the Fed decision.

Why This Week Matters
Friday’s jobs report changed the setup, with employers adding 162,000 jobs in August, roughly triple some Wall Street forecasts, while unemployment held at 4.1%. Rate-hike odds moved back toward 60%, leaving Thursday’s PPI and Friday’s CPI as the final major inflation tests before the Fed meets next week.
Inflation also has an energy problem again. Oil prices have climbed as tensions in the Middle East raise the risk of further supply disruptions, putting added pressure on the same inflation data the Fed is watching.
Corporate earnings are lighter, but there are some useful reads across the market. Adobe is the biggest tech report of the week, while AeroVironment offers another look at defense demand. Chewy, American Eagle, Macy’s and Kroger should give investors a broader read on how the U.S. consumer is holding up heading into the fall.
