Why This Week Matters

Micron is the test as the stock has been one of the major semiconductor leaders, and its Wednesday earnings report comes after a week in which chip stocks helped push the broader market higher. Micron's results should give investors another read on memory demand and the pace of AI infrastructure spending. Jabil adds another semiconductor and electronics supply-chain read the same morning.

August PCE data arrives Wednesday, with the latest GDP estimate and personal spending data at the same time. Friday's jobs report will be the week's main event for investors trying to gauge the economy and the path for interest rates.

Thursday's ISM manufacturing report will provide another look at the factory economy heading into the fourth quarter. August's manufacturing PMI came in at 54.6, marking an eighth straight month of expansion, although the pace slowed from July.

Nike brings the consumer side of the story into focus Thursday night, while Accenture provides another read on corporate technology spending. With AI stocks continuing to lead while elevated Treasury yields pressure more rate-sensitive areas, the question for traders is whether the earnings and economic data can support the current market leadership or trigger another rotation.
