Why This Week Matters
Fed takes come on Wednesday, and markets will be listening for whether Warsh and the Committee remain comfortable holding rates steady or see the combination of higher energy prices and lingering inflation as reason to keep future increases on the table. The decision lands one day before GDP and PCE, meaning the Fed will speak before traders receive two of the week’s most important reads on growth and inflation.
Tech takes over after the bell Wednesday and Thursday, with Microsoft and Meta giving investors another look at AI demand, infrastructure spending and whether those investments are translating into revenue. Apple and Amazon follow Thursday, bringing reads on the consumer, cloud demand and the wider technology trade. With the market growing more sensitive to AI spending, capital expenditure guidance may matter as much as the headline earnings numbers.
UPS and Ford will offer a look at freight and autos, Visa and Mastercard will show how consumers are spending, and Chevron and Exxon close the week with oil still tied closely to developments involving Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.
