August 10–14, 2026

The jobs report knocked down the odds of a September rate hike a good bit. This week, inflation gets the say with July CPI and PPI arriving Wednesday and Thursday, followed by retail sales Friday. Then, traders will digest Super Micro, CoreWeave, Cisco and Applied Materials, all of which keep AI infrastructure in the earnings conversation. Read on to the end to see why this week matters.

Why This Week Matters

Friday’s jobs report changed the rate conversation after payrolls surprisingly fell by 23,000 in July. May and June were revised down by a combined 103,000 jobs, and traders cut the probability of a September hike to roughly 45% from around 60%. CPI now has a shot at moving that trade again as a hot inflation print would revive the case for tightening, while softer prices would give the Fed another reason to wait.

Earnings move deeper into the AI supply chain. CoreWeave and Nebius will give investors another look at the economics of the neocloud buildout, while Cisco and Lumentum cover networking and optical demand. Super Micro already said quarterly revenue would land near the low end of its $11 billion to $12.5 billion range, although margins are coming in well above its prior forecast. Applied Materials finishes the week with another read on spending for advanced logic, memory and chip packaging.

Then, retail sales and Michigan sentiment will come on Friday after a jobs report that raised questions about the strength of the labor market. Tapestry, Cava and On will add company-level reads along the way. With inflation still above target and hiring suddenly looking softer, the market will be watching for which side of the Fed’s mandate is weakening faster.
