The S&P 500 extended its streak on Tuesday, with the cash index advancing 0.58% to a record close of 7,818.93.
The move marked the S&P 500’s first record close since Aug. 13 and its 28th record close of 2026. The Nasdaq Composite also reached a record high for the second straight session, while investors continued to look ahead to third-quarter earnings season.
December S&P 500 futures traded as high as 7,838.75 and as low as 7,829.00.
The session concluded above the day’s midpoint at 7,834.75, gaining 8.50 handles from the prior close of 7,826.25.
Tomorrow, market participants can look forward to the release of the Federal Reserve’s minutes from its September meeting at 2 p.m. ET. The minutes could provide additional insight into the central bank’s outlook for interest rates following the latest employment data.
Among the top components of the index, Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) emerged as the biggest gainer. The chip designer advanced by $13.30, or 3.67%, to close at $375.81 for the day.
That performance was more than six times better than the cash index’s 0.58% advance.
Conversely, the biggest loser ended up being Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META). For the day, the tech conglomerate declined by $3.02, or 0.41%, to close at $738.88.
