Daily Wrap-Up: Chopped Up | Apr 6, 2026

The S&P 500 index futures put in a technically outside day Monday, but the day’s session can be summed up as tight-range chop that left both bulls and bears feeling sliced up.

Overnight, the low was established almost immediately at 6567, with reports of a potential Iran deal providing a helpful tailwind for the bulls. Bulls bumped into resistance near last week’s high before the regular open. Once the bell rang, the action turned choppy inside a narrow band, with bulls starting to pull ahead. At 10:00 AM, March’s ISM services report came in softer than expected (54.0% versus 55.4% consensus). That gave bulls just enough fuel to break the premarket high, but the pop topped quickly at 6661 and was sold off almost immediately. The index futures then remained stuck in roughly a 40-handle range for the rest of the day.

In the penultimate hour, bulls made one final push toward the highs and managed to hold their ground, keeping futures comfortably in the green into the close. The session ended near the day’s high at 6651, up 47.25 handles.

Tuesday brings February durable goods orders at 8:30 AM ET along with a few earnings reports, most notably after the close.

Among the top components of the index, Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) stood out as the biggest gainer, climbing $3.02 or 1.44% to close at $212.79.

That performance was over three times better than the cash index’s 0.47% advance.

On the other hand, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) was the biggest loser, dropping $7.77 or 2.15% to close at $352.82.
