Bulls built more momentum in Tuesday’s session and drove the S&P 500 index futures into fresh territory, helped along by circulating reports of potential relief in the US-Iran conflict along with positive earnings reports.
Overnight, bulls kept the action in the green, albeit only slightly, setting an early low of 7629. Buying started to pick up as the regular session approached, and once the opening bell rang, bulls sliced straight through the premarket high. The ensuing rally soon had the index futures testing the previous all-time high, a level that also coincided with the psychological 7700 area.
The pause in the rally didn’t last long, and the advance pressed on into the afternoon. Similar to Monday, the rally started to plateau in the final two hours, and just before the close, bulls ticked the all-time high up to 7786 before a few profit-takers came in. The session concluded at a new all-time closing high of 7765.60, gaining 137.25 handles.
Tomorrow, market participants can look forward to some services inflation reports after the open, along with another slate of earnings reports in the morning and evening.
Among the top components of the index, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ: AVGO) emerged as the biggest gainer. The chip designer advanced by $25.93 or 6.61% to close at $418.16 for the day.
That performance was over thrice the cash index’s advance of 1.80%.
Conversely, the biggest loser ended up being Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN). For the day, the e-commerce giant declined by $6.60 or 2.32% to close at $277.42.
