The S&P 500 index futures stuck to their recent theme, starting in the red and finishing green by Monday’s close.
Overnight, a gap down, likely from tariff news, saw bulls find footing near last week’s low, bottoming at 6259.75. Bids built slowly toward the regular session, setting up a comeback. The regular session opened with quick swings in both directions, but bulls pulled ahead, maintaining higher lows as the day unfolded.
By lunch, the index futures hovered around Friday’s close, with afternoon gains pushing to a high of 6315. Sellers showed up before the bell, but their impact was minimal. The session wrapped near the day’s high at 6311, up 11 handles.
Looking ahead, Tuesday brings June’s CPI at 8:30 AM ET and big bank earnings in the morning.
Among the top components, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) emerged as the biggest gainer, advancing $3.39, or 1.08%, to close at $316.90.
That outpaced the cash index’s 0.19% rise by over five times.
On the other hand, Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) tanked as the biggest loser, declining $2.54, or 1.20%, to $208.62.
