The S&P 500 fell on Thursday, with the cash index declining 0.47% to 7,765.36.
The retreat came as technology stocks led the broader market lower, with investors reacting to a report that OpenAI’s annualized revenue was running closer to $50 billion rather than the previously reported $70 billion. The concerns weighed on AI-linked names, while elevated oil prices and Treasury yields added to the pressure on risk assets.
December S&P 500 futures traded as high as 7,858.25 and as low as 7,796.75.
The session concluded below the day’s midpoint at 7,816.75, losing 36.00 handles from the prior close of 7,852.75.
Tomorrow, market participants can look forward to the preliminary October reading of the University of Michigan consumer sentiment index at 10 a.m. ET, while Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is scheduled to report third-quarter results before the open.
Among the top components of the index, Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) emerged as the biggest gainer. The retail giant advanced by $2.40, or 2.22%, to close at $110.56 for the day.
That performance was more than two percentage points better than the cash index’s 0.47% decline.
Conversely, the biggest loser ended up being Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO). For the day, the chip designer declined by $16.37, or 4.35%, to close at $360.14.
