DDD Buys Core Scientific in a ‘Laggard Trade’

Watchlist: CORZ

Triple D is betting that Core Scientific (CORZ) has some catching up to do.

The Stock Trader Network chief strategist bought CORZ Thursday morning, sending a trade alert to the STN room at 9:55 a.m. ET after identifying the data-center operator as a laggard against a group that has already produced large moves in names including CoreWeave (CRWV), Nebius (NBIS) and IREN Ltd. (IREN).

“I’m looking for the laggard trade here,” Triple D said in the Stock Trader Network Think Tank. “It’s a laggard trade and saying, okay, I think you can put one on for a trade here.”

The thesis is relative performance and the company’s place in the AI-infrastructure trade.

The fundamentals are not without risk though, with Triple D noting that heavy capital spending continues to weigh on profitability, and he remains wary of businesses whose valuations depend heavily on earnings several years into the future.

“We’ve been down this road before,” Triple D said, recalling the tech bubble. “Some of these are not going to work out.”

What keeps CORZ interesting to the Chief Strategist is the attention it has already attracted from larger players, with CoreWeave previously trying to acquire the company.

CORZ also announced a partnership with AMD (AMD) alongside its July earnings, under which AMD is expected to secure up to 2.5 gigawatts of data-center capacity beginning in 2027.

With other AI infrastructure names already moving, Triple D sees CORZ as “a sleepy one that hasn’t gone yet.”

STN members can keep up with Triple D’s trades in real time through the Trade tab in the Stock Trader Network room. Not financial advice.
