Daily Wrap-Up: Leaking Under Highs | Aug 11, 2026

The S&P 500 index futures leaked lower during Tuesday’s session, taking more off the table than the bulls could defend and keeping the index futures pinned in their latest consolidation range just beneath the all-time highs made last week.

Overnight, bulls and bears oscillated around unchanged, with neither party able to maintain much momentum. Some early morning earnings reports and light Iran-related news instigated the first real action of the day, and bulls popped the index futures to a high of 7796 before sellers hit back, forming a double-top with Monday’s high.

The regular session opened near that premarket high, but sellers quickly distanced the index futures from it. Support was temporarily found near Monday’s closing area and the premarket low, though before long sellers were adding pressure and bids started to give way. The unsteady decline took hold, with bulls attempting to hold support at Monday’s low before the selling continued to a low of 7738. After that point was hit in the penultimate hour, bulls clawed back some of the losses, but the recovery rally didn’t last long either. The session concluded near the day’s low at 7747.50, losing 29.25 handles.

Wednesday, market participants can look forward to July’s CPI report at 8:30 AM ET, along with more earnings reports in the morning and evening.

Among the top components of the index, Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META) emerged as the biggest gainer. The tech conglomerate advanced by $4.20 or 0.71% to close at $599.12 for the day.

That performance was over 1% better than the cash index’s decline of 0.32%.

The biggest loser once again ended up being Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL). For the day, the tech giant declined by $13.72 or 3.84% to close at $343.80.
