Bulls continued pushing to new all-time highs to kick off the month in Monday’s S&P 500 index futures session, but only after weathering early geopolitical turbulence as well as fresh reports on Iran negotiations.
Overnight, bulls maintained a modest uplift and nudged all-time highs slightly higher. As the regular session approached, profit-takers emerged and reports that Iran negotiations had been halted brought more sellers into the market. The regular session then opened near the premarket low of 7576.25. Bulls and bears battled in tight chop with little net progress during the first couple of hours.
Positive news later helped bulls regain control and move back into green territory. Gains came slowly through the afternoon until a Trump update on continuing Iran talks sparked a sharp breakout, sending the index straight to a new all-time high of 7632.25. Bulls held most of those gains through the afternoon before late profit-taking trimmed some upside in the final half hour. The session concluded above the day’s midpoint at 7613.25, gaining 17.50 handles.
Tuesday, market participants can look forward to some minor macro data after the open, along with another decent slate of earnings reports in the morning and evening.
Among the top components of the index, NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) emerged as the biggest gainer after announcing a new consumer chip. The chip designer advanced by $13.22 or 6.26% to close at $224.36 for the day.
That performance was over 23 times better than the cash index’s advance of 0.27%.
Conversely, the biggest loser ended up being Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META). For the day, the tech conglomerate declined by $32.04 or 5.07% to close at $600.47.
