Daily Wrap-Up: More Chopping Up | Apr 27, 2026

As earnings season continues, the S&P 500 index futures continue to march up a choppy ladder, which was the case for Monday’s session.

Overnight, the low of 7171.50 was quickly put in as bears and bulls took in weekend news. But before long, bulls were back to making new all-time highs. As the night continued, the early gains faded away.

Once the regular session began, bulls and bears went right back at it. Oscillating Friday’s closing level, the morning chop saw tests of the overnight low as well as Friday’s high. It wasn’t until the afternoon that the bulls were able to break through Friday’s high once again and go to retest the overnight high. Bulls had the index futures pinned to the overnight high until the final few minutes when they made a new all-time high of 7211.25. The session concluded near the day’s high at 7206 gaining 11.25 handles.

Tomorrow market participants can look forward to some minor macro data along with another load of earnings reports in the morning and evening.

Among the top components of the index, NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA) emerged as the biggest gainer. The chip designer was able to advance by $8.35 or 4.01 percent to close at $216.61 for the day, making new all-time highs in the process.

For those keeping track, that performance was over 23 times better than the cash index’s advance of 0.17 percent.

Conversely the biggest loser ended up being Walmart Inc (NYSE: WMT). For the day the retail giant declined by $2.33 or 1.79 percent to close at $127.59.
